The Materials and Process Engineering (M&PE) Department, which functions within the Mechanical Engineering Discipline team, is seeking a Section Leader to lead our Mechanical Analysis team located in Tucson, AZ. As a Section Leader, the ideal candidate will be accountable for management of the engineering team and ensuring quality of technical output & technical decisions to support all phases of product life cycle (including design, development and production) for a multitude of programs. Technical output will cover various fields of mechanical analysis, testing, failure analysis, material selection, material characterization and process improvement.
What You Will Do:
Perform direct line management activities and provide leadership for approximately 15-20 engineers.
Provide technical development of people, mentoring, training, performance management, and resource allocation.
Provide oversight to ensure the accuracy of technical output of assignments based on data and analyses.
Team with the Department Leader in the execution of Materials and Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Discipline and Raytheon Engineering goals. Lead and support department, directorate, and engineering initiatives.
Coordinate program and department staffing needs, optimizing resource utilization, and supporting recruitment and retention efforts.
Perform individual contributor workload in the leader’s subject matter discipline.
Provide evaluation and resolution to technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processes
Provide Materials and Process Engineering support and technical oversight to programs’ product life cycle (design reviews, gate reviews, Material Review Board, Change Control Board, Process Change Board, and engineering peer reviews).

Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a Bachelor of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 14+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
Experience with materials and process design, development, and/or production support for military programs
Experience in working on a cross-functional team to meet program milestones and commitments
Experience in testing methods for generation of physical properties of materials (i.e. Instron, Izod & hardness testing)
Experience with analysis and requirements of PWB/CCA interconnects (i.e. solders, micro vias and general design & construction)
Experience in failure analysis of mechanical assemblies.
Experience in dimensional inspection/measurement techniques, tribology and paint processes
Qualifications We Prefer:
Ten (10) years of experience in materials problem solving, materials design selection and reviews, or evaluation/validation of material properties for new or existing products
Demonstrated ability to lead and complete multi-disciplined scientific based projects
Direct experience utilizing all material types to support production and development in the aerospace industry.
Advanced degree in aforementioned disciplines. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
Understanding of Systems Engineering
Knowledge of data analysis, statistics, and various computational techniques for complex multi-variable problems.
