This role is part of the Safety, Quality, & Mission Assurance team. This team is focused on monitoring and assessing processes that guide Blue Origin design, manufacture, and operations, ensuring system safety engineering, environmental health and safety, product integrity and continuous improvement processes serve the Blue Origin Mission and Vision.

  

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will inspect development and flight vehicle components for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of providing accurate data on tight tolerance high value components to determine configuration per engineering designs. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

This position will require shift flexibility to align with changes in business need. Shift schedules are outlined below:

Monday-Thursday (Weekday) First Shift 5:00am-3:30pm (Days)

Monday-Thursday (Weeknight) Second Shift 3:00pm-1:30am (Nights)

Friday - Sunday (Weekend) Weekend Day Shift -5:00am -5:30pm (Days)

5:00am -5:30pm (Days)/ 5:00pm-5:30am (Nights)

*The weekend shift is Friday- Sunday and is scheduled for 36 hours and is scheduled for 36 hours, but the employee will receive an 11% weekend shift pay uplift.  As such, the position is paid the equivalent of the 40-hour Monday-Thursday/ Friday shift.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage preparation for Computer Aided Manufacturing inspection by creating data analysis templates using Microsoft Excel.

  • Inspection Software Quality Assurance.

  • Program, setup and operate Leica laser tracker; Romer arm; CMM; Blue Light; Keyence; Manual Layout.

  • Using design data to inspect machined and received components.

  • Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections.

  • Provide feedback to machinists and engineers with dimensional data.

  • Document Non Conformance reports as required.

  • Provide inspection time estimates.

  • Process improvement including inspection cycle time reductions.

  • Maintain configuration control on files and job records.

  • Safely work within an industrial environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in dimensional inspection of aerospace components or equivalent.

  • CMM programming and operation.

  • Superior blueprint reading skills including GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2009 standard.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Fluent in the use of precision hand tools, gages, optical comparator, and surface plate work.

  • Experience inspecting tight tolerance, high value components.

  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9000 Quality Management Systems and/or related quality systems and programs

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion 

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CAD system knowledge

  • Model Based Engineering experience per ASME Y14.41-2012.

  • Creo Experience

  • Advanced machining knowledge.

  • Design for Manufacturability and Producibility knowledge.

  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight-critical hardware.

  • Experience in Tooling design reviews to address tooling and component manufacturability on flight hardware ensuring compliance with ASME requirements.
