Job Details

This position serves as the central coordination point (hub) for ambulatory infusion pharmacy services and supports the hub pharmacists to triage patients to the appropriate site of care per client practices for infusion treatment. The technician will coordinate with key stakeholders to execute on client’s initiative that expands health system’s services and increases infusion capture rate.

Location: Onsite at Lodi Memorial Hospital in Lodi,California with remote support to the outlying clinics.

Responsibilities:

  • In coordination with the departmental infusion hub pharmacist navigator, determines appropriate infusion site of care for patients prescribed infusion and/or injection therapies based on treatment type, patient appropriateness, and payer qualifications using tools/data available. 

  • Assesses, develops, and recommends the best method of providing ambulatory infusion pharmacy services to support patients based on health system guidance.

  • Ensures referrals flow through to home infusion, alternate site and ambulatory pharmacies as applicable based on health system guidelines.

  • Serves as the initial contact for all identified client site of care pharmacy prescriptions and referrals.

  • Responsible for benefit review, prior authorization, product sourcing, EMR documentation, and denials management.

  • Promotes the value and benefits of the pharmacy infusion hub and client infusion strategy. 

  • Facilitates patient referral in a timely manner and deliver exceptional client service to clinic staff and patients.

  • Develops and maintains close relationships with clinic staff, physician, pharmacy and other hospital contacts.    

  • Acts as financial advocate for patient where needed; leverage charitable foundations, state programs, and/or manufacturer programs to ensure maximal patient access

  • Consults and implements process improvements to integrate services for better customer experience for physician, clinic staff, patient and pharmacy.

  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with client, demonstrating accountability for service delivery.

  • Works extended hours when needed to ensure patients receive their medication and to complete business plan objectives. Provides backup coverage to support clients and patients in the event of absence of other assigned resources.

  • Independently, and working hand in hand with client authorization resources, facilitates benefits verification and prior authorizations services for infusion site of care patients. 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education:

A minimum of four (4) years as a pharmacy technician in areas such as Infusion or Specialty Pharmacy, including benefit verification, prior authorization, medical and pharmacy billing. Pharmacy technician certification with a national technical certification organization, such as Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) in corresponding state is required at time of hire.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • High degree of accountability and ability to work independently in a self-directed fashion

  • Knowledge of healthcare insurance, prior authorization and/or coding is preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office particularly Word and Excel

  • Ability to quickly learn other systems and programs (pharmacy dispensing software, electronic health records, etc.).

  • Experience in Epic or similar EMR platforms highly desirable.

  • High level of organization and high-quality communication skills.

  • Highly effective communicate skills, effectively both orally and in writing

  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints

  • Strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence

  • Ability to resolve patient issues quickly and creatively to improve customer satisfaction

  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical products, services and drug interactions

  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail

  • Excellent analytical skills
