The Grant Accountant will be responsible for accounting duties in support of Senior Accountants, such as entry, analysis, and maintenance of the general ledger with a focus on grant accounting functions, cash management support, monthly and year-end close support, and participation in the implementation of sound internal and compliance controls. They will work closely with the finance staff and will report directly to the Controller.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preparation of monthly journal entries
- Assist in the research of financial management activities. Assist in reconciling budget to actual expense activity for all grants and contracts. Prepare financial reports and invoices for all grants to ensure timely and accurate submission to government funders and private foundations.
- Responsible for grant accounting functions, including review and preparation of budgets and amendments, preparation of grant reports and financial documentation maintenance, and monthly accruals of expected grant income.
- Oversee grant compliance and processes as it relates to grant accounting and ensure compliance with funding source and administrative guidelines.
- Coordinates monthly closing and assists with year-end closing, preparing monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, and recording of adjusting journal entries.
- Perform as a backup for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivables process, and run various financial reports, including preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Prepare correspondence and interact with outside entities as needed.
- Responsible for the 1099 yearly filing process and review of W-9 forms.
- Assist in the preparation of schedules and documentation for the year-end audit.
- Assist the Manager in the preparation of budgets with cooperation/input of operations.
- Perform additional ad-hoc analysis as needed.
Qualifications
EDUCATIONAL / Work REQUIREMENT
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Three to five years of related accounting experience preferred.
