Water plants in greenhouses, including weekend rotations.
Record measurements of temperature, precipitation, and other data.
Operate tractors, mowers, sprayers, pressure washer, edgers, spreaders and gardening hand tools. Maintain hand tools, mower blades and lubrication points on power equipment.
Maintain equipment; responsible for minor repairs. Responsible for reporting needed repairs and maintenance for grounds equipment to Supervisor.
Under supervision, assist with maintenance of insect and disease management program including proper established practices of sanitation, monitoring, scouting and application of pesticides for optimal plant growth.
Perform materials handling of fertilizers, potting materials, etc.
Remove/dispose of trash, soil and other waste in compliance with safety protocols.
Assist with minor greenhouse structural repairs when required.
Ability to mechanically trouble-shoot greenhouse alarms as identified by Facilities staff or other greenhouse staff.
Able to properly identify common pests and pathogens and identify potential effective controls.
Spray and/or fumigate under the supervision of Certified Pesticide Applicator as Apprentice or Technician.
Record, file and report proper documentation for pesticide applications.

Position Summary:
The employee will assist in performing assigned field and greenhouse tasks that are associated with the plant breeding program. This includes providing standard care for research plants including keeping accurate records of plant accession numbers, growing the plants in the greenhouse, propagating plants as instructed, planting field trials of impatiens plants, weeding field plants, and taking data as needed.
