The Area Manager is responsible for organizing, planning, implementing and supervising farming operations in a manner which optimizes return on investment and good stewardship.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assist Vice President in formulating operating and capital budgets per property.
- Perform within the total budget framework adjusting for special unforeseen, uncontrollable conditions that cause variances from “normal” budgeted figures.
- Implementation of effective, efficient, orderly and timely farming operations.
- Promptly respond to special circumstances or conditions during the growing season such as weather, pest, diseases, or other extraordinary events.
- Effective handling of personnel, contractors, labor, vendors, equipment and processors in a strong, fair manner.
- Achieve yields comparable to or better than the best farmers in the area with similar property.
- Oversee Ranch Managers performance of duties; provide guidance to ensure effective Company practices and efficient operations.
- Train Area Manager Trainee’s; ensure their success in learning Company best practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of pest recommendations, labels and pesticide regulations and recordkeeping.
- Knowledge of irrigation plans and procedures, as well as maintenance and make recommendation on repair versus capital improvement (re-pipe, new well, etc.)
- Provide Vice President with management reports related to ranch budgets, CIP projects, harvest, etc.
- Promptly report problems or successes and produce monthly management reports or other studies and analysis as needed.
- Oversee procurement procedures, both the formal and the informal bidding process, for fairness and compliance.
- Ensure company policies are followed and all employees are property trained.
- Enforce company safety policies and evaluate new regulations for necessary updates or changes.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum AA degree in Agricultural related field; B.A. or B.S. degree in Agricultural studies preferred; or, more than 10 years large scale farming experience may be substituted for degree.
- 5 year’s experience in Supervisory/Management role.
- Must be able to work well with management and communicate well with others.
- Qualified Applicators License (QAL) required.
- Accredited Farm Manager (AFM) Designation preferred.
- Must possess valid driver’s license and be insurable with company’s commercial carrier.
- Must be able to work nights and/or weekends as needed.
- Must be able to travel regionally, and frequently drive long distances.
- A valid driver license
- Completion of drug testing prior to joining and complying with the company's drug and alcohol policy throughout the employment.
