About the role

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our federal team at our York, PA location. Responsible for supporting current manufacturing processes and facilitating the continuous improvement of these processes in the plant facility; process include assembly, brazing, electrical, paint and insulation.  Develops solutions for production problems related to materials, processes, and tooling. Supports new products and programs by developing new processes, designing fixturing, and developing production controls. Responsible for set-up of new equipment, ensures proper operation of the new equipment, and to teach others the proper use of this equipment. Accountable for applying sound economic methods to equipment and space utilization to meet design and quality criteria with the lowest expense and consistent with the facilities financial and non-financial objectives.

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will:


  • Develops processes, methods, tooling, fixturing, and production controls for new products and programs; supervises their assembly and proofing.
  • Supports production to resolve any manufacturing issues.
  • Manages capital equipment planning and procurement activities. 
  • Coordinates new product development and cost reduction activities.
  • Manages capital equipment planning and procurement activities.
  • Maintains, operates, and troubleshoots manufacturing support software.
  • Plans, supervises and executes work measurement, and defines operations and operation balance to TAKT time.
  • Plans, justifies and implements facility changes to produce the forecasted volume of product economically.
  • Supports Lean Manufacturing and Flow Manufacturing.
  • Supports and leads 6S activities.
  • Participates in and leads Kaizen events.

Required Qualifications:


  • This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with one (1) to three (3) years of progressive, hands-on manufacturing engineering experience or equivalent work experience.
  • This position also requires knowledge of formal problem-solving methods. Previous experience with new products and process introductions along with a working knowledge of lean manufacturing practices and procedures is also required. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, & PowerPoint) as well as Internet software and
  • SolidWorks is required.

The primary mission of Johnson Controls Navy Systems is to supply Chilled Water Air Conditioning, Refrigeration Systems and associated equipment to the US Navy and US Coast Guard. Johnson Controls Navy Systems is a part of the Johnson Controls Federal Systems business. Our robust, high reliability products are designed, manufactured and tested in York, PA to military and other stringent customer specifications.
