The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Pharmacy Director to lead all pharmacy services and operations for the Cornell University Hospital for Animals. In this role you will provide quality pharmacy-centered care which aligns with the mission, values, and objectives of CVM. Additionally, you will dispense and compound pharmaceutical drugs and prescriptions. You will develop and be responsible for pharmacy regulatory compliance and quality improvement. You also will be responsible for managing systems, procedures, purchasing, vendor relations, and staff leadership in a fast-paced, high-demand, customer-focused environment.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Direct the operations of the pharmacy while assuring compliance with all federal and state regulations
Establish policies and procedures that improve the quality and efficiency of the pharmacy.
Prepare, compound, preserve, and dispense drugs, medicines, and therapeutic devices upon the legal authorization of a licensed practitioner.
Provide professional consultation with doctors and students
Evaluate and approve for ordering and dispensing both sterile and non-sterile drugs and supplies.
Create a positive and engaged culture for the pharmacy team that fosters collaboration and success with students, staff, faculty and house officers.
Recruit, supervise, and retain pharmacists and technicians by effectively and proactively managing team performance and offering personal and professional development opportunities.
Support DVM teaching, post-graduate training and clinical investigation through participation in educational programs and collaborative research.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and 5-7 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination
New York Pharmacy License and in good standing with the NYS Board of Pharmacy
Demonstrated experience as an effective supervisor and strong leader.
Demonstrated administrative and management skills to maintain optimal levels of efficiency established by the department.
In-depth understanding of pharmacy methods and procedures, including chemistry, mathematics, and national formulae.
Knowledge of federal and state laws related to pharmacy practices
Familiarity with the composition, storage, and uses of various drugs.
Working knowledge of purchasing pharmaceutical supplies and inventory and compounding of prescriptions and pharmaceutical preparations.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Able to provide excellent customer service to diverse internal and external audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an academic hospital environment.
Some experience in retail pharmacy management.
Demonstrated interest in animals and veterinary medicine.

This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
