The Department of Biological Sciences at Prairie View A&M University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting in Fall 2026. The ideal candidate will have expertise in teaching introductory biology courses to biology majors, including core concepts in molecular and cellular biology, genetics and evolution, plant and animal physiology, ecology, and population biology. Preference for candidates with experience in teaching General Biology or Microbiology or Environmental Biology to upper-level students. Minimum qualifications for the position are a completed Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related field, prior to appointment, and a demonstration of teaching interest and experience. Applicants must demonstrate scholarly excellence in their specialties and the ability to acquire external funding. This appointment begins in Fall 2026.

The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.  ​

Responsibilities:

  • Teach General Biology I and II lecture and laboratory courses or related biological courses for biology majors.
  • Advise students on degree plan requirements for pre-professional programs.
  • Mentor and supervise students through academic advising, student organizations, undergraduate research, internships, and departmental activities.
  • Serve on college-wide and departmental committees, including assessment projects, search committees, and regular department meetings.
  • Create and maintain partnerships with two-year colleges and four-year transfer institutions to promote student transfer and increase enrollment in Biology programs.
  • Develop community partnerships to support workforce development and career pathways for Biology students.
  • Identify and pursue external funding opportunities.
  • Conduct and publish scholarly research in the candidate's area of expertise.
  • Develop and sustain an undergraduate research program.
  • Establish and maintain a competitive research program.
  • Maintain competency in the discipline and effective teaching practices through professional development.
  • Maintain regular office hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Biology or related biological fields.
  • Minimum of two years full-time college teaching General Biology at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience designing and implementing online courses.
  • Experience developing virtual summer bridge programs.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to teach two of the following: General Biology and Histology or Microbiology or Environmental Biology.
