Senator Aaron Woods and Representative Daniel Nguyen are hiring a Legislative Assistant 2 to assist with constituent affairs, communications, and outreach.
Senator Aaron Woods represents Senate District 13, which includes Wilsonville, Tigard, Sherwood and portions of Washington County. Representative Daniel Nguyen represents House District 38, which includes Lake Oswego, portions of South and Southwest Portland.
The LA 2 position will provide opportunities for growth in communications skills and responsibility. The position requires someone who is highly motivated, detail-oriented, personable, and has a strong interest in public service.
This position will work 20 hours a week for each office, and the combined part-time work will be the equivalent of one full-time position. This is a full-time, limited duration position that is expected to last through December of 2024. The position will be a hybrid, with a combination of remote work and in-person work. Should the position be extended into 2025, the position will work 100% in-person at the State Capitol in Salem. The offices of Senator Aaron Woods and Representative Daniel Nguyen are inclusive and have a zero-tolerance policy for any discrimination or bias.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in the day-to-day operations and functions of the Legislative Member’s Office
- Answers phone calls, greets visitors, coordinates visits, assists with requests, and responds to general inquiries
- Assists in drafting messaging, writes floor speeches, letters, press releases and social media
- Monitors and tracks bills
- Assists in developing and implementing communication and outreach strategies
- Coordinates town halls and other public outreach events
- Manages incoming communications, including emails, mail, and in-person visitors
- Meets with constituents and stakeholders
- Schedules meetings and coordinates logistics. Manages Member’s calendar and appointments
- Assists constituents in navigating bureaucracy, casework inquiries and understanding impact of legislation

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree and three (3) to five (5) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate ability to perform the duties of the position may be considered.
