Staff Full Stack Applications Engineer (AI Apps Focus)

As a Staff Full Stack Engineer, you'll play a key role in advancing our AI technology platform and building intelligent software products that make a meaningful impact. You'll have the opportunity to lead large-scale technical efforts across multiple platforms that address our long-term AI strategy. You'll be expected to propose novel solutions to real-world business challenges using AI, work cross-functionally with engineering and non-engineering peers, and drive innovative solutions that enhance our user experiences through intelligent interfaces and workflows. The ideal candidate will also have a track record of being an effective thought leader and improving engineering best practices across the organization. 

Job Responsibilities 

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, full-stack AI-enabled software solutions that are scalable, reliable, and easy to maintain. 
• Build data-intensive chat interfaces that effectively harness AI capabilities and provide exceptional user experiences.
• Develop provenance-aware form fills and intelligent summarization features that enhance productivity and accuracy. 
• Create flexible, reusable frameworks for building AI-enabled applications that can be leveraged across the organization.
• Lead architecture and system design efforts for complex, distributed AI applications, ensuring alignment with long-term business and technical goals.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners in product, design, and business teams to translate strategic AI initiatives into technical solutions.
• Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing around AI application development.
• Champion engineering best practices and drive initiatives that improve system performance, code quality, and developer productivity across the organization.
• Be tech lead of a small squad of full stack engineers, providing technical direction, mentorship, and hands-on support. 

Education, Experience, and Skills 

• 8+ years experience in full stack software development with a strong focus on modern web applications.
• Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript with extensive experience building production-grade front-end applications.
• Strong proficiency in Python for backend development, particularly in AI/ML integration contexts.
• 7+ years experience building large-scale front-end applications using React (highly preferred) or other modern frameworks (Vue, Angular).
• 7+ years experience developing back-end services and APIs in a distributed, service-oriented architecture using multiple paradigms (e.g. REST, RPC, GraphQL).
• Demonstrated experience building AI-powered user interfaces, including conversational interfaces and intelligent data processing workflows.
• Strong experience with data modeling using multiple database and storage types, particularly for AI application contexts.
• 5+ years experience designing and deploying resilient and scalable distributed services in the cloud using Docker and Kubernetes (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Applied knowledge of multiple architectural paradigms and design patterns for AI applications. 

Bonus Points For 

• Experience with AI SDK, assistant-ui, or similar AI application typescript frameworks.
• Experience building document viewing and manipulation interfaces, particularly with PDFs.
• Prior healthcare / health tech experience, or experience in other regulated industries, particularly with data privacy and compliance requirements.
• Experience with LLM integration, prompt engineering, and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architectures.
• Contributions to open-source AI application projects or frameworks.
