Research IT Business Analyst

Job Description

About This Role  

The Research IT Business Analyst will partner with scientists to define and implement technology solutions that propel Biogen’s drug discovery initiatives across gene therapy, small molecule therapeutics, protein therapeutics and ASO technologies. This role is reporting into the Associate Director, Research IT. 

*This is a hybrid role based in Cambridge, MA *

What You’ll Do  

• Actively participate in projects and maintain alignment with project objectives, scope, approach, deliverables, financials, schedule, dependencies, and risks. 

• Proactively engage and interact with IT and functional stakeholders, delivery teams, and vendors to ensure accountability and drive value. 

• Translate business needs into actionable requirements, user stories and tasks for delivery in hybrid agile scrum-based projects. Participate in technical roadmap planning and documentation. 

• Provide advanced application support for critical scientific platforms and applications, coordinating with operational support teams within IT. 

• Clearly communicate status, schedule, risks, issues, and changes/resolutions for work activities and deliverables, keeping teams informed on a regular basis. 

• Follow and uphold required IT processes and provide input to enable continuous process improvements. 

Qualifications

Who You Are  

You are an IT professional experienced in business analysis in a life sciences research environment. You are a problem solver and collaborator, comfortable working with both IT and scientific stakeholders/end users. You possess excellent communication skills, and ability to make decisions in a rapid-paced, dynamic environment. 

Required Skills  

• BS or BA in life sciences/computer science or equivalent experience. 

• 2-4 years of experience working as a Business Analyst in the life sciences/biotech industries and familiarity with pharmaceutical research technologies, tools, and methodologies. 

• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to interact with our scientists, technical teams, project managers, senior management, outsourced service providers, and vendors. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate complex technology matters to audiences with varying degrees of technical background. 

• Strong problem-solving and influencing skills with the ability to independently troubleshoot, develop alternative solutions to problems, and define practical action plans. 

• Proven time management and organization skills, with attention to details.  

• Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed environment. 

• Knowledge of System Development Life Cycle and Agile Scrum frameworks. 

Preferred Skills 

• Knowledge of modern technology stacks, including cloud and high-performance computing technologies. 

• IT project management skills including budget, schedule, and vendor management. 

• A passion to learn and grow beyond comfort zone.
