Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Systems – Core SE Team Lead (25-212) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position, located in Colorado Springs, CO., or Huntsville, AL., plays a crucial role in our mission to support the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier globally and regionally. Networks integrate and synchronize autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

The team lead is the first line of leadership for all Core SE team members and reports to the Regional SE Engineering Manager

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate metrics of team progress
  • Supports all team staffing responsibilities, including interviewing new candidates, dealing with team performance issues, and supporting team member growth and development  
  • Expected to be technically competent in all of the work performed by the team, such that they can act as a reviewer of the product to ensure quality
  • Responsible for defining and ensuring compliance with Core SE team processes

Salary range for Colorado Springs: $124,900 - $187,300

Salary range for Huntsville: $131,100 - $196,700

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Technology, System Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline preferred from an accredited university and 8 years of experience, or a Master’s degree in a related discipline and 6 years of experience, or PhD in a related discipline and 4 years of experience
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.  Travel is primarily between Huntsville, AL, and within the Colorado Springs, CO., area
  • Strong System Engineering and Proven Leadership Experience are required
  • Experience performing system engineering for large complex systems, including requirements analysis and decomposition, Interface definition, root cause analysis, application design, integration, and testing
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are a must
  • Must have experience working on proposals, team building, developing and maintaining metrics, facilitating and providing training, and shaping a culture
  • Experience managing System Engineers, providing mentorship in the discipline, is a must
  • Must be capable of working on-site and with teammates from multiple companies and in geographically diverse locations
  • Must have knowledge and proven experience with Agile principles and the ability to work with different teams within an organization
