Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Staff Development Specialist I for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to conduct new employee orientation, promotional and refresher course training programs. Participates in the development and implementation of staff training. Prepares training aids and written materials for instructional programs. Directs, observes and assists staff in the application and usage of audio and visual training aids.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts new employee orientation, promotional and refresher course training programs.
  • Participates in the Staff Development Training Committee.
  • Prepares training aids and written materials for instructional programs.
  • Assists in the evaluation of staffing needs.
  • Maintains computerized training records to ensure that all staff at the center have completed required training and are up to date with annual in-services.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college. Academic course work should include quantitative measures (introductory statistics or business mathematics or social science analytical tools), educational methods, psychology of individuals, organizational or group behavior, labor relations or equivalents.
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in education or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Two (2) years of professional experience working with training theories, methods and applying current techniques.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience contributing to the development of, or interpreting policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience developing training schedules, including the coordination, organization, and scheduling of instructors.
  • Three (3) years of basic professional experience utilizing automated multi-tasking computer software, such as Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel, in the completion of routine tasks.
