Staff Scientist, Histology

In this role, you will participate in scientific activities and initiatives in support of global Laboratory Operations. You will perform complex trouble-shooting and problem-solving, supporting Laboratory Operations to ensure smooth transition of assays into production and participate in developing/identifying new strategies, techniques and instrumentation for the development of new ventures in the scientific area of expertise for Central Laboratory Services global Laboratory Operations.

• Perform complex troubleshooting and assist in leading initiatives to solve challenging scientific problems with assays or instrumentation.

• Apply and interpret scientific theories, concepts, techniques and regulatory requirements in clinical studies and accept leadership role in developing scientific approaches.

• Provide consultation to scientific and operational staff on technical issues.

• Respond to unscheduled deadlines, client needs, crises, etc. without neglecting other duties.

• Assist with regular monitoring and evaluation of clinical assays to ensure effective scientific performance.

• May provide technical training for operational staff.

• Provide technical/scientific consultation to departments outside the lab (i.e., Project Management) as requested.

• Contribute to long-term planning and technical policies of the department.

• Assist in managing scientific vendor relationships to troubleshoot issues and improve capabilities.

• Participate in client visits.

• Regularly read literature related to scientific area of expertise to remain current in knowledge.

• Give presentations to clients and professional groups.

• Attend meetings, conferences, symposia, and seminars to promote Central Laboratory Services’ capabilities within dedicated scientific area.

What we’re looking for

Staff Scientists are the most successful at Labcorp with:

• 3-4 years post-doctoral experience within scientific area of expertise.

• Additional relevant experience (preferably within a CRO or R&D) may be substituted for education requirements above.

• Rich immunohistochemistry (IHC) experience and familiarity with FISH staining and reading

• Experience using IVD staining platform

• Experience in image analysis

• Highly skilled in conducting research, data interpretation, and writing reports.

• Proven track record of method development.

• Experience performing scientific presentations and preparing scientific publications.

• Knowledge of clinical laboratory automation, system software, Microsoft applications and laboratory statistics.

• Effective communication skills with technical staff, business development staff, peers and clients.

• Attention to detail and interpretation of scientific data.

• Demonstrated problem prevention, detection and resolution.

• Preferred: Board certification in scientific area of expertise.

Education/Qualifications:

• PhD in scientific area of expertise preferred.  MS with appropriate experience will be considered.

Pay Range: $68,080k-$120,000k
