About the role

The Director of External Reporting will oversee the external reporting function and manage the preparation and filing of quarterly and annual SEC reports ensuring compliance with all SEC rules and regulations and US GAAP accounting standards. This position will report to our VP, Strategic Accounting Transformation. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of SEC reporting requirements, US GAAP and financial statement preparation. This role requires a strong ability to work cross-functionally, manage tight deadlines and communicate effectively with senior leadership and external auditors.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the preparation and timely filing of quarterly and annual SEC reports (10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, etc.), ensuring compliance will SEC rules and regulations, including XBRL

• Review and analyze financial statements to ensure all required disclosures are made in accordance with US GAAP and SEC disclosure requirements

• Collaborate with accounting, FP&A, legal, tax, treasury and investor relations to coordinate and review financial disclosures and ensure accurate reporting

• Review quarterly earnings releases and other investor communications to ensure accuracy and alignment with 10-Q and 10-K

• Coordinate the review of filings with external auditors, including providing necessary documentation and addressing any audit matters

• Ensure proper resolution of management certifications and adequacy of financial reporting internal controls

• Monitor and communicate new SEC regulations and interpretations and emerging guidance to the finance organization and senior leadership, including impact on filings

•Organize and lead quarterly disclosure committee meetings

• Oversee specialized areas of accounting, including lease accounting, calculation of diluted earnings per share and preparation of cash flow statement

• Review annual sustainability report and statutory financial statements

• Lead ad-hoc projects related to SEC and financial reporting and assist with technical accounting as needed

• Recommend and implement continuous process improvements to maximize efficiency in the financial reporting close process

• Manage relationships with third-party reporting compliance software vendor

Education and Experience:

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, CPA certification required.

• 10+ years related work experience applying US GAAP accounting and SEC requirements, including minimum of 6 years auditing experience within a large, multi-national public accounting firm (e.g. Big 4); experience in a large publicly-held life sciences company preferred.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

• High degree of accounting and SEC proficiency.

• Organized, detail oriented and self-motivated with a strong desire for continuous improvement.

• Prior experience with XBRL, consolidations and ESG reporting preferred.

• Strong project management and prioritization skills.

• Able to influence, act collaboratively, and drive results through others.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.

Additional Information:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $153,000.00 - $229,500.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
