The Respiratory Education Coordinator identifies and provides educational opportunities and resources for professional development of Respiratory Therapists care and treatment of inpatients and outpatients with impaired respiratory function. This role also identifies and provides educational opportunities and resources for patients and their families to optimize patient care. The Respiratory Education Coordinator helps drive progress of best care practices.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Respiratory Education Coordinator develops Respiratory therapy standards, policies, competencies, procedures as well as educational opportunities for staff, patients, and patient’s families.
Conducts quality assessment and improvement for Respiratory Family Training and patient education.
Develops and implements Respiratory therapy patient and family education.
Coordinates Respiratory therapy hospital orientation in conjunction with program managers, as well as participates in skills check offs with other disciplines.
Participates in identifying individual and staff development needs and resources for Respiratory Therapy.
Promotes and participates in the development of research, presentations, conferences, and publications.
Identifies resources for education for professional and non-professional organizations in the community.
Provides monthly in-service education for Respiratory Care
Attends all discharge liaison meetings for patients discharging with ventilator and/or airway.
Updates DPS log with all patients sent for DPS implantation, surgery outcome and status at discharge.
Responsible for Center staff CPR training as well as caregivers in SCI with vents or airways.
Communicates with case management on discharge plan, and scheduling caregiver training.
Performs consistent with Shepherd Center standards, clinical policies, and procedures.
Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Center and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.
Actively participates in center-wide efforts that affect respiratory practice.
Adheres to patient/family centered principles using the communication and engagement tools (OARS/AIDECT).
Establishes relationships with other respiratory therapists.
