Salary Range: $37.89 - $57.10 / hour

Most often, a newly hired employee will be placed below the midpoint of the range.

Pay for PRN positions is calculated differently than Full-Time, Regular Part-Time, and Part-Time positions. PRN Rates depend on the position and other factors, including years of experience, or shift commitment according to the department policy. PRN differential is added in certain positions.

Responsibilities

Position Overview:

To provide care to the total spectrum of patients served by Respiratory Care Services to include patients in acute and critical care areas, pediatrics, Emergency Room, and assist physicians with special procedures (intubation, bronchoscopy, etc.).  Assumes responsibility for the prompt and/or routine execution of physicians’ orders relating to Respiratory Care Services.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate of Science (AS) degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Current California Respiratory Care Practitioner License
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Six (6) months of clinical education/experience
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Member of the hospital CPR team, main function is ventilation and ABG’s.
  • Setup and monitor mechanical ventilators, able to evaluate, take weaning parameters, suction endotracheally or tracheally and lavage tubes, extubate when ordered by physician.
  • Sampling and analysis of arterial blood gases, responsible for proper recording of results.
  • Responsible for daily calibration, maintenance, and running quality control solutions of the blood gas analyzers.
  • Administration of oxygen, approved medical gases, and aerosols.
  • Performs chest percussion and postural drainage.
  • Performs and calculates primary pulmonary function tests.
  • Administers, Hand Held nebulizers, incentive spirometry, coughing and deep breathing exercise.
  • Cleans, assembles, and disassembles equipment.
  • Functions and aids in the evaluation of patients in the rehabilitation setting.
  • Stocks necessary respiratory therapy equipment in the ICU, ER, and the Recovery Room, as well as the Labor and Delivery Rooms, and the Nursery.
  • Performs 12 lead electrocardiograms, rhythm strips, records and files results.
  • Sets up and monitors aerosols.
  • Records therapy notes in the patient’s chart, and maintains patient. Evaluates new patients within eight (8) hours of admission and make notations in the patient care plans.
  • Responsible for daily billing.
  • Attends in service classes regularly.
  • May be assigned to one of various hospital committees.
  • Assists nursing in nasotracheal suctioning of floor patients.
  • Responsible for giving respiratory patients discharge instructions when necessary.
  • Standby for assistance during cardioversions, intubations, bronchoscopes’, tracheotomies’ and ER when requested.
  • Set up and monitor large volume nebulizers.
  • Set up and monitor Bi-PAP.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
