Position Summary

The Wattenberg Laboratory seeks a driven laboratory technician to assist with experiments directed at defining the role of myeloid cells as therapeutic targets in cancer. The role will include diverse molecular and genetic techniques and in vivo experiments. The successful candidate will be responsible for mouse colony maintenance and assisting with in vivo studies.  

The Wattenberg Laboratory at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis aims to develop new immune targeted therapies for the treatment of cancer. The laboratory is led by Max Wattenberg, M.D., a Medical Oncologist and Physician Scientist. The major research focus is on myeloid cell biology in cancer. Myeloid cells are heterogeneous cells of the innate immune system, and play pleiotropic roles in cancer, showing both cancer supporting and anti-tumor potential. The lab seeks to define (i) mechanisms by which myeloid cells shape the fate of tumor cells and other immune cells in the tumor microenvironment and (ii) how therapeutic reprogramming of myeloid cells can influence tumor control. In addition to rigorous and impactful research, the laboratory is dedicated to the career development of scientific trainees.

The techniques used by the lab to accomplish this research include flow cytometry, mass cytometry, single cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, bulk RNA sequencing, immunohistochemistry, CRISPR-Cas9 engineering, in vitro and in vivo pooled CRISPR screening, cell culture and transgenic mouse models.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and setup and maintenance of equipment.
• Performs in vivo mouse experiments.
• Conducts mouse breeding and genotyping.
• Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
• Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
• Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
• Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
• Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

• This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. 

• The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

$16.92 - $26.44 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
