Join our team remotely from the location of your choice as a Lead Product Designer and travel to our Product Development Center (PDC) in Wauwatosa, WI, as necessary.

Job Summary

 

You will work in the RVISS (Rider Vehicle Interface, Systems, and Suspension) Team inside the Systems Engineering Group. You will be responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and conducting UX/UI Design and Product Design on Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Engineering programs and various projects for New Product across the company.  The team for this role is multi-disciplinary, focusing on core skills of Rider-Centered Design: UX Research, Human Factors Engineering, User Experience Design, User Interface Design, and Product Design.

 

The ideal candidate is passionate about making great products for motorcycle riding, vehicle design, and fulfilling customer needs to seek out solutions that continuously improve the Harley-Davidson motorcycle experience for our Riders.  
 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Lead UX/UI and Product Design activities for assigned programs within Systems Engineering and partner with Mechanical, Electrical, Parts & Accessories, Style, Digital Growth (Web/Mobile), Advanced Engineering, and Motorcycle Management organizations to oversee and prioritize work for Motorcycle User Experience Design.
  • Collaborate with members of the team and cross functional stakeholders to enhance and continuously improve the Rider-Centered Design Strategy and deliverables.
  • Coordinate delivery and measurement of IxD outcomes for vehicle systems to develop Rider and Passenger interactions and subsequent requirements.
  • Combine product design and business knowledge with H-D human factors engineering standards and data, user research and test results, and UX/UI design industry best practices to deliver designs to project teams that define our motorcycle user experience.
  • Conduct necessary research and support for UX/HFE design activities and artifacts to create new vehicle product designs, for displays, controls, and Rider interactions that drive systems designs.
  • Recruit, plan, and run iterative user tests throughout vehicle design programs to incorporate Rider feedback before formal User Testing and validation.
  • Interview and collaborate with necessary teams to create Personas, Journey Maps, User Flows, Information Architectures, Interaction Designs, Wireframes, UI Designs, and Product Designs.
  • Coach and educate design engineers, partner teams, and leadership in Design Thinking/User-Centered Design and Agile methodologies to improve requirements and product outcomes.
  • Expand and evolve H-D UX standards, design methodologies, guidelines, processes, equipment and tools.
  • Ownership and oversite of Program Management requirements through developing user stories, UX requirements, timelines, design planning, etc.
  • Plan and co-lead UX workshops as necessary
  • Willingness to participate and learn to plan, conduct, and measure results of formal User Testing to have the ability to assist the broader team as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to Milwaukee and supplier sites as necessary.

Bachelor's Degree Required

Education Specifications

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or relevant experience.     
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Human Factors, Cognitive Science, User Experience or similar a plus.

Experience Requirements

 

  • This position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant UX, UI, and Product Design experience in a technical field.  Less experienced candidates will also be considered.
  • Expert problem solver in the crafting and design of a product experience
  • Able to use judgement in incorporating user feedback based on professional usability and visual design knowledge.
  • Thorough understanding in design systems, component design, and library management.
  • Able to autonomously recruit, plan, and run iterative user tests.Strong ability to workshop, author, and interpret user stories and communicate customer needs for development teams to understand design outcomes and generate requirements
