OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Development, Clinical Services, reports to the Executive Director of Development, Clinical Services and is responsible for fundraising primarily for Duke University Health System (DUHS) priorities which include capital projects, programmatic initiatives, operational resources and Duke Health hospitals. The position will focus on gifts of $25k-$99k and will serve as a member of the Individual Giving fundraising team.
WORK PERFORMED
Fundraising (60%)
- Successfully identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit special gifts prospects.
- Working in coordination with administration, faculty, and volunteers as appropriate, recommend and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for grateful patient prospects.
- Secure gifts in support of Duke University Health System (DUHS) funding priorities as established by leadership.
- Write or assist in drafting proposals and other materials as necessary.
- Assist in planning and/or directing cultivation events or programs.
- Coordinate appropriate recognition and stewardship activities for donors.
- Work successfully with colleagues across the institution to collaborate on prospects with multiple interests.
- Follow best fundraising and operational practices for Duke Health Development & Alumni Affairs.
- Follow procedures in coordination with the Office of Gift Records to ensure effective collecting, recording, accounting, acknowledgment and follow-up on all private gifts from assigned donors.
Prospect Identification (30%)
- With a special focus on building a pipeline for special and major gifts within the Individual Giving team, build partnerships with major gift colleagues within DHDAA to increase and manage faculty physician referrals of grateful patients to enhance special gift conversations.
- As appropriate, build partnerships and maintain regular communication with DUHS leadership, key faculty partners and volunteers across the health system to increase and manage the level of referrals of grateful patients and other potential prospects to enhance special gift conversations.
- Provide consistent referrals to leadership annual giving, planned giving, and major gifts colleagues.
- Work in close coordination and with annual, major and planned giving officers.
- Coordinate and collaborate with colleagues on all Duke Health fundraising teams to ensure comprehensive coverage of prospects and donors.
Portfolio Management (10%)
- Develop contact reports and enter moves and data into tracking databases.
- Successfully grow, maintain and manage a small portfolio of special gifts donors.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, internally and through national organizations.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
