The role of Manufacturing Intern is intended to start in Summer (May) 2025.

An internship is a temporary position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule throughout a 10-12 week assignment. This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Manufacturing Intern, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Facilitate the review of our stock room inventory management system for accuracy based on current equipment

  • Standardize naming conventions for all parts to refer to “equipment where used”

  • Create a sustainable system for inventory cycle counts in the stock room

  • Create a sustainable system to manage the parts request list

  • Facilitate a red tag event in the stock room and update layout

  • Implement 5S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) method within Packaging procedures

  • Standardize tool usage & provision

  • Standardize process input flow & staging

Your Skills and Expertise   

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications: 

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: 

  • Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale 

  • Completed at minimum freshman year (2 semesters) by the start of the internship

  • Previously completed an internship/co-op with 3M or another manufacturing company 

  • Previous work experience in a manufacturing setting

  • Demonstrated communication skills - both verbal and written

  • Demonstrated leadership and coordination skills

  • Exhibits initiative and is proactive in problem-solving

  • Maintain confidential and restricted information

  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Products and Internet Explorer

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams

  • Knowledge of statistical software programs

  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems

Work Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
