9NEWS (KUSA) in Denver, CO is searching for a Newsroom Operation Manager. As the Newsroom Operations Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing our operations and editing team, ensuring the efficiency and quality of daily production activities. This includes overseeing camera robotics, programming ingest and preparation, and coordinating master control operations. You will also play a key role in maintaining our high visual standards by supervising the video editing department and overseeing field productions. Your leadership will ensure that our station runs smoothly, meeting the highest standards of excellence.
Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Management:
- Lead and manage the operations team, overseeing daily production operations, including camera robotics, programming ingest and preparation, and master control coordination.
Video Editing Supervision:
- Oversee the news video editing team, ensuring training, scheduling, and quality control are in place to maintain our high visual standards.
Media Asset Management:
- Manage newsroom media storage and playout systems, ensuring proper media asset management and seamless operation.
Field Operations Oversight:
- Ensure the readiness of our microwave fleet and coordinate deployment logistics and training. Act as the liaison with engineering for upgrades and repairs.
Field Equipment Management:
- Oversee ENG (Dejero, TVU, Starlink) field assets, coordinating upgrades, training, and communication with the assignment desk and engineering teams.
- Manage the field equipment and technology working closely with newsroom management. By tracking assets, coordinating repairs and upgrades, and providing strategic input to capital purchases pertaining to the field equipment.
Vehicle Fleet Management:
- Supervise the maintenance and assignment of news vehicles, including outfitting new vehicles added to the fleet.
- Ensure fleet vehicles are being used efficiently and ready for service.
Liaison Role:
- Act as the key point of contact between the newsroom and engineering staff.
- Ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of automated caption systems.
Remote Production Leadership:
- Support the Head of Technology and co-lead the coordination of remote productions, including sporting events, debates, special programs, and more. Responsibilities include design, staffing, and implementation.
ENPS Super-User Support:
- Assist Executive Producers with ENPS super-user functions and liaise with engineering for issue escalation.
- Provide innovative ways
Strategic Direction:
- Collaborate with the News Director, Head of Technology and Operations, and senior staff to shape the future direction of KUSA’s operations.
- Be an innovative and passionate leader to the operations and editing team.
Special Projects:
- Take on specific projects as assigned by the News Director and Head of Technology and Operations, contributing to the continuous improvement of station operations.
Requirements:
- 5-7 years experience in a managerial role within a large newsroom or media group.
- Proficient in news editing within multiple platforms including Edius.
- Experienced leader and manager.
- Experience leading and budgeting technical equipment for photographers and the newsroom.
- 3-5 years experience in leading remote productions.
- Expert experience with ENPS, Bitcentral, Chyron, Edius, and Microsoft products.
- Technical knowledge of production systems and newsroom workflows.
- Experience with remote video workflows (microwave, bonded cellular, IP, etc).
- Strategic thinker and decision maker that can partner with many departments throughout the news organization.
