Position Overview
As a Veterinary Assistant at Fairfax Animal Hospital, you will support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing top-notch care to animals. The ideal candidate will be experienced, compassionate, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians with exams, surgeries, and various treatments
- Prepare animals and equipment for surgical and medical procedures
- Monitor and provide care for animals before, during, and after surgery
- Take and record vital signs, weights, and animal history
- Provide compassionate care and handling of animals
- Educate pet owners on general animal care, medical procedures, and post-surgical care
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment
- Stock supplies and ensure all necessary equipment is ready for use
- Handle client communications and schedule appointments as needed
Requirements
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years experience as a Veterinary Assistant
- Ability to work closing shifts and Saturday hours
- Knowledge of animal health and behavior, medical terminology, and general animal care
- Ability to safely handle animals, including those with behavioral challenges
- Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to client service
- Strong attention to detail, especially in medical and record-keeping
