John Description
The Sr. Staff Platform Engineer will be primarily responsible to design, develop and maintain ZIA OS and platform infrastructure. Manage and Maintain ZscalerOS, ZSLINUX and align this by tracking, assessing, and applying FreeBSD and Linux Kernel changes. Bring in new drivers for our platforms and coordinate to qualify this for production deployment.
The Engineering team develop innovative solutions that are transforming the internet security business, and millions of users rely on our service for data protection and comprehensive security. We also provide real-time analytics to our customers for unmatched visibility and maintain a state-of-the-art NOC. The development team works on web filtering, policy enforcement, next-gen firewall, sandboxing, DLP, and mobile user solutions. Being responsive to our customers and delivering industry-leading mission-critical solutions require precise engineering and a philosophy of continuous improvement, both areas in which Zscaler engineers excel.
Responsibilities/What You’ll Do:
- You will track access changes that should be incorporated in to ZscalerOS from the changes of FreeBSD.org in kernel and userland.
- You will update the hardware drivers and coordinate to qualify them for production deployment.
- You will work on introducing ZSOS and ZSLINUX on the next generation hardware and coordinate to qualify this to production deployment.
- You will work on creating the latest versions of ZSOS and ZSLINUX images and packages and coordinate to qualify and deployment into production environment.
- You will create and maintain tools and Package update pipeline which will incorporate latest tools versions and addresses the fixes of reported CVE’s.
- You will automate Infrastructure deployment and updates in OpenStack, AWS, Azure and ESXI environment.
- You will collaborate with platform developers, QA, OPS, Product and Support teams.
- You will track and document activities through JIRA and confluence tools.
Qualifications/Your Background:
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience within security engineering focused roles supporting Linux/FreeBSD platform
- In-depth understanding in Linux/FreeBSD Kernels.
- Strong understanding of Linux/FreeBSD packaging concepts (dependencies, conflicts, repositories, package signing)
- Good understanding of complex projects build process - in depth understanding of the make and gmake tools
- Programming skills in Python and Shell script and understanding of C, C++ code.
- Knowledge and work experience in Intel based Bare-metal servers and Virtual appliance servers.
- Experience with cloud technologies such as OpenStack, VMware, AWS, Azure, GCP.
- Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance for all our deployments and environments, both internally and externally.

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
The base salary range listed for this full-time position excludes commission/ bonus/ equity (if applicable) + benefits.
