About the Role

The Director of Operations will play a pivotal role in Fathom's mission to shape responsible AI governance. Reporting to the Chief Impact Officer, this position will lead the operational aspects of the organization, ensuring efficient execution of Fathom's strategic initiatives across research, convening, building the Fathom community, and grantmaking programs.

Responsibilities

Strategic Operations Management

Collaborate with the executive team to translate Fathom's strategic vision into operational plans
Develop and implement operational policies, processes, and systems to support Fathom's growth and impact
Oversee the organization's annual budgeting process and manage financial operations
Lead and oversee the OKR setting and management processes from Annual OKRs through sprint planning and management with the team at large
Create reporting/dashboards to keep leadership and key external parties (where appropriate) informed and engaged on the right metrics

Stakeholder Relations

Serve as a key liaison and establish communication best practices with the Board of Directors, on strategic & operational matters
Develop and manage processes to communicate with, educate, and activate Fathom’s various external partners, including advisory boards, connectors, and strategic partners
Collaborate with research partners and advisors to ensure operational alignment, including overseeing the operational aspects of Fathom’s grantmaking program
Manage relationships with key vendors and service providers

Program Management

Provide strategic oversight and support for cross-functional projects, ensuring alignment with Fathom’s strategic goals and defined OKRs
Take on, lead, and manage strategic projects and initiatives within Fathom
Develop and implement project management methodologies to ensure successful execution of initiatives
Identify opportunities for process improvement and organizational effectiveness, enable others to do their work more effectively

Human Resources and Talent Management

Foster a positive organizational culture that reflects Fathom's values and creates a positive and productive work environment for people to do their best work
Lead recruitment efforts to build and maintain a high-performing team, helping ensure organizational design is optimized for achieving our goals efficiently and professionally
Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with Fathom's organizational goals

Compliance and Risk Management

Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations for 501(c)(3) organizations
Develop and maintain risk management strategies and policies
Oversee legal and contractual matters in collaboration with external counsel

Technology and Infrastructure

Manage Fathom's IT systems and digital infrastructure
Implement and oversee data management and security protocols
Identify and implement technological solutions to enhance organizational efficiency

Requirements

Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Science or a related field
10+ years of experience in operations management, preferably in nonprofit or think tank settings
Proven track record of developing and implementing operational strategies in fast-paced environments
Experience working with novel approaches to emerging technologies
Strong financial acumen and experience with budget management
Excellent leadership and team management skills
Deep understanding of nonprofit compliance and governance
Experience with grant management and donor relations
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Passion for Fathom's mission and
