Position Summary
The Lead Technical Services Mechanic performs skilled maintenance work in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plant equipment and machinery including pumps, valves, air compressors, and rotating assemblies. Will supervise a group of mechanics on special jobs or work orders. This position is split between the office and field work.
Job Responsibilities
• Maintains the various water and wastewater treatment, purification and production related equipment and facilitates mechanical repairs necessary to keep equipment operating in an efficient manner.
• Coordinates with water and wastewater operations personnel to assure critical equipment is operational and is repaired timely when needed.
• May be asked to assist other departments with various task during emergency repairs or routine maintenance.
• Performs all routine preventative maintenance tasks as specified in the equipment operations and maintenance manuals.
• Performs routine repair and preventative maintenance tasks on other equipment as directed.
• Observes safe work practices through proper use of safety equipment and procedures including permit required confined space entry and lock out tag out.
• Supervises a team of mechanics on special jobs or work orders.
• Assists subordinate employees with troubleshooting and repairing of mechanical equipment.
• Responsible for evaluating quality of work performed by subordinate employees.
• Responsible for ensuring subordinate employees receive required trainings.
• Orders and sources supplies and parts as needed.
• Troubleshoots, breaks down machinery for repair and maintenance including motors, chain drivers using appropriate hand and /or power tools.
• May also work on hydrologic and pneumatic systems or pieces of machinery.
• May participate in PVC work and pipefitting as needed.
• Will have to fabricate and mills specialty parts.
• Will be required to be on a rotational “ONCALL” status to respond to NTMWD repairs outside of normal business hours must be able to work overtime when needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience:
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Five years of experience as a mechanic, some of which is preferred to have been around water and wastewater machinery and systems.
• TCEQ Water / Wastewater license preferred.
• Additional relevant schooling or certifications preferred.
• Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Must be able to read and understand technical manuals, schematics and drawings.
• Must have the ability to comprehend, carry out and administer written and oral instruction as well as give oral and written instruction to subordinates so that objectives are clearly understood.
• Must be able to delegate work to subordinates in a clear manner so that work is completed in the most timely, efficient and safe manner.
• Must become proficient in the use of the District Computerized Maintenance Management System.
• Must have the ability to read operations and maintenance manuals, schematics, blueprints and safety data sheets.
• Must possess considerable knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their normal operating states.
• Must have exceptional troubleshooting skills to facilitate prompt efficient repair or prompt handoff to appropriate department if not mechanical.
Environmental and Physical Working Conditions
Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.
