NextEra Energy Marketing, LLC is looking for a Principal Accountant reporting to our Director Accounting MTM, Reporting and Forecasting.
In this role you will:
- Provide timely and accurate accounting and financial reporting of the Company’s derivative contracts and related mark to market of those activities
- Maintain NEE fair value and Non Qualifying Hedge (“NQH”) (non GAAP earnings measure) accounting policy
- Prepare all required NEE fair value disclosures for SEC reporting
- Provide accounting and financial planning and analysis support to the energy trading and marketing business units: analysis of earnings, cash flow and trader P&L
- Support the Company’s interest rate swap accounting and forecasting
- Provide support to management on the balance sheet, income statement and cash flow impact of various trading strategies and transactions
Specific Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
- Prepare quarterly fair value disclosures and related support
- Support the daily review of all new energy trading deals for proper accounting treatment and day 1 reserves
- Leverage the use of advance reporting tools (MSBI and SAPBOBJ) to support and improve the reporting process
Business Unit Financial Planning & Analysis Support
- Maintain the P&L forecast for the trading business units based on assumptions provided by business unit leadership
- Prepare and analyze forecasted balance sheet and cash flows
- Prepare monthly Trading P&L, analyze variances, and review results with trade floor personnel and business unit leadership
- Prepare and monthly budget vs. actual and variance explanations for Corporate reporting and review with business unit leadership
Ideal Candidate will have
- Advanced Excel Skills
- Proficient in SAP, Trading accounting systems and Microsoft Business Intelligence (MSBI)
- Advanced ability to use, and help facilitate the design of, advanced reporting tools (MSBI and SAP BOBJ) to support the reporting process
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, with proven analytical skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in order to effectively communicate guidance and recommendations to management
- Six Sigma experience and Process improvement mindset
- Ability to multi-task
- Expertise in Energy Trading Accounting

• Analyzes proposed transactions for structure and proper accounting treatment under authoritative accounting literature
• Reviews changes in technical accounting literature, develops positions and present to management
• Maintains awareness of accounting issues being considered by regulatory bodies and advises management of important matters
• Ensures consistent application of accounting policies
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's - Accounting / Finance / Business
• Experience: 6+ years

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
• Master's - Business Administration
• Master's - Accounting / Finance
• Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
