Discovery introduced Max, an enhanced streaming platform, in the U.S. HBO Max is currently available in 46 countries and there are plans for the continued global expansion of Max in 2024.

Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer in Search to join support, build and scale the search platform for the global streaming app Max and for other initiatives related to search and personalization experiences in streaming apps. You are excited about working in a fast-moving environment that fosters engineering and operational excellence with continuous development, deployment, experimentation, quality assurance, and collaboration. You will bring an obsession with our customers, skills for rapid feature iteration, and curiosity for this problem space. In your role, you will be working in a team of passionate software engineers and machine learning engineers contributing to a system that serves 100+ million users worldwide.

• Contribute to architecting, building and scaling the backend systems that powers the search experience to users across Max, Discovery+ and other WBD offerings

• Collaborate with data scientists and data engineers to improve quality, stability, resilience of search platforms

• Opportunities to expand skillset into personalization experience

• Drive observability, scalability, cost-optimization, and performance tuning and other improvements to recommendations services and models

• Collaborate with platform, content, user data and product partners as Max expands to new markets around the globe

• Author, test, review, and optimize production-level code in Java while executing best practices in version control and code integration.

• Motivate, inspire and create a culture of experimentation and data-driven innovation while constantly advocating for doing what is right for our customers

• Contribute technical documentation to support project planning, operational excellence, and knowledge sharing

What To Bring

• 5+ years of industry experience

• 3+ years of distributed systems engineering with a large-scale customer base

• 1+ years of experience contributing to search features

• University degree (B.S. or M.S.) or equivalent industry experience in software engineering, computer science, or related fields

• Practical Knowledge of large-scale distributed application architecture, design, implementation and performance tuning

• Strong architectural and design skills

• 3+ years of programming experience in Java

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills, be comfortable to contribute to technical documentation and on-call support

• Experience with one of the cloud platforms AWS/GCP/Azure

• Experience with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins etc.

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes

• Experience with search engine technology, such as ElasticSearch/O
