JOB SUMMARY

A Graphic Artist II performs graphic arts and design work. The work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

The incumbent should be able to create print collateral (brochures, flyers, postcards, posters, banners, logos, PowerPoint presentations, press kits) and digital media materials (social media graphics, website banners, public presentation decks, email newsletters). The employee will assist the Communications team with public messaging assignments, social media and website updates, and media inquiries as needed.  Skills of Adobe Creative Cloud, digital mapping tools, GIS exports, PowerPoint, basic animation/motion design, and Canva needed and knowledge of Drupal 10 and social media software such as Buffer is a plus.

Employee should be willing to work irregular hours, extended shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays on short notice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

Education: Have a bachelor's degree in graphic arts or a related field from an accredited college or university.

                                                                    AND

Experience: Have one year of experience in designing and drawing graphic materials.

                                                                     OR

Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of graphic arts principles and techniques.

  • Skill in drawing, painting, coloring, lettering, sketching, exhibit construction and photographic and movie making techniques.

  • Skill in the use of drawing, painting and lettering instruments, woodworking tools, photographic and movie making equipment and materials and paints, inks and other illustrative materials.

  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with City agency representatives and associates.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Background Check      

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. 

Probation 

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month's probation.

Eligibility 

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.                                                             

Education Accreditation 

Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
