Principal Engineer / Staff Consultant – Space Data Management Architect
This position is for an experienced engineer to provide engineering leadership across multiple mission areas for architecture and development of next generation data management and movement for space missions in support of development programs and new business. The role will work to establish Ball capabilities and architectures for space data routing hardware and software needs, solutions, and partnerships to position the company for upcoming opportunities. The role will also work closely with Ball’s internal R&D groups to prototype key technologies for internal and customer engagements. This position will report to the Director of Strategic Capacities. The responsibilities of this position include architecture design, stakeholder communication, and continued assessment of markets and technologies in the data management and networking areas.
What You'll Do:
- Support and/or lead data management architecture, system and box/board level designs, peer reviews, or audits.
- Provide leadership and functional/career direction by exhibiting behaviors aligned with the tenants of Ball’s Inspire, Connect and Achieve (ICA) leadership model. These behaviors would include providing a unifying vision, understanding the diverse needs of others to meet business challenges and acting with humility and a collaborative spirit.
- Technical development, understanding, analysis and assessment of concepts and designs for data architectures; including performance predictions and risk assessments.
- Data systems architecture modeling, simulation, and mock-up/demonstration leadership and direction to R&D lab staff as needed.
- Lead trade studies and assessments of alternatives for data architectures, data routing hardware, and mission conops around data movement and management.
- Knowledge of cyber security driving requirements and risks when assessing architectures and the ability to work with enterprise assurance on cyber requirements that impact data networking.
- Identify strategic architectures, capabilities and technologies for data networking.
- Identify and Contribute to new IRAD/ technology development concepts and roadmaps.
- Support Strategic Business Unit (SBU) marketing and proposal development by data management concepts and architecture solutions to customer missions and provide winning discriminators for Ball.
- Support SBU customer interaction by providing input/development/briefing to Request for Information and for customer on/off site briefings.
- Provide Engineering and SBU insight into industry capability and industry and/or government technology development to guide technology roadmap, engineering resource planning, program capture and proposal development.
