FUNCTION Mechanics/Maintenance
Salary: $26.94 - $33.67 Commensurate with Experience
SUMMARY
Performs journey level locksmith duties on the campus of Charlotte Douglas International Airport within a full service lock shop working with commercial and institutional doors and locking systems. Respond to calls for service and works with a variety of customers such as general business and airport security. Act decisively and exercise independent judgment within established rules, regulations and procedures. Often works alone and without direct supervision. Work is evaluated based on results, observation and feedback from customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Install, maintain, repair and inspect all lock hardware, keying systems, cash safes and related mechanisms in keeping with security, fire and safety regulations in all Airport facilities and grounds including perimeter fencing.
2. Conducts periodic inspections of doors, new tenant construction, correcting deficiencies and maintaining integrity of keying systems.
3. Responds to calls for service inside and outside of terminal building.
4. Insure integrity of master key system. Perform audits.
5. Maintain inventory of stock required for repairs and projects.
6. As needed, assist Airport carpenters and maintenance mechanics in performing work such as hanging doors, installing frames or any other work that may be performed in conjunction with security locks.
7. Fabricates materials as needed, such as springs for older locks, solders computer boards and battery packs.
8. Maintain shop equipment and system records, tracking keys, cores and individual access.
9. Research new locks, locking systems, keyways or standards as needed.
10. Supports other Airport Operations Sections by performing assistance duties for irregular and emergency operations such as crowd control, fire watches, escorts, and other duties deemed necessary for continuity of operations.
11. Other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES:
Knowledge of:
• Working knowledge of hand and power tools for the locksmith trade, such as files, chisels, power drills, rulers and equipment such as CNC high security key machines, manual key-cutting machines, Best Key combination punch, lock picks.
Skill in:
• Experience in master keying systems.
• Basic computer skills including knowledge of MS Office suite - Excel, Outlook and Access required as well as other standard office equipment.
• Familiarity with Ingersoll Rand Brand Products.
• Should be able to respond calmly in emergency situations, work well with limited supervision, operate radio equipment, follow complex instructions, and keep accurate records.
Ability to:
• The ability to use woodworking power equipment in the carpentry shop and welding/brazing tools in the Lock shop, i.e. die grinders, volt meters, etc.
• Ability to prep new doors with lock jigs.
• Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner with airport tenants, co-workers and the general public. Represent Charlotte Douglas International Airport in a professional, positive manner and communicate effectively with customers, tenants and co-workers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
No minimum level of education and 1 year of relevant work experience OR
High School Graduate or Equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduation/GED and three years of experience in the locksmith trade; or five years locksmith experience in lieu of a high school diploma.
Must possess valid North Carolina Locksmith License or obtain within one year of hire.
If no license at time of hire, must be accredited through nationally recognized locksmith association.
