We are actively looking for a Transportation Engineer to join our Atlanta office (Midtown or Peachtree Corners).  As part of the Transportation Group, this role will be involved in a variety of projects – highway, municipal roadway, intermodal/port, and/or rail design projects and develop plans for projects across the state, US, and potentially internationally.  Familiarity with a variety of civil engineering type projects, has permitting experience, and a strong existing professional network with municipal, GDOT or regulatory agency staff is desired.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering design tasks for highway, municipal roadway, some rail and potentially intermodal/port projects from preliminary to final design
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
  • Maintain and establish working relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, GDOT and state clients, as well as private clients 
  • Provide engineering design services for traditional design-bid-build and design-build highway projects
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans, including but not limited to implementation and knowledge of cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement markings plans
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective action

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation related engineering degree; required
  • 6-10 years of experience in transportation engineering design projects; required
  • Professional Registration (PE) in Georgia or the ability to gain through reciprocity within 6 months of start position; required
  • 3+ years of experience in OpenRoads design; required
  • A motivated self starter who is a team player and has the desire to continue to learn and grow while mentoring Jr. Engineers
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hire

Working conditions:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
