Education Programs Coordinator II - Special Education Monitoring

The Vermont Agency of Education is looking for an Education Programs Coordinator to serve as Monitoring Specialist within our Special Education Monitoring team. This person will work on the Special Education Program Monitoring Team, primarily remotely with occasional in-person work at the Agency of Education and throughout Vermont's public schools, supervisory unions, and independent schools. A commitment to access, opportunity, and equity for students with disabilities is required. 

 

Knowledge of special education monitoring practices is preferred, but is not required, and can be taught as a part of an onboarding process. Robust skills with Microsoft Excel and related data-based activities are required. This is an inherently collaborative position that is integral to the Special Education Program Monitoring Team within the Student Support Services Division and works closely with other Agency of Education teams to gather and compile data for monitoring activities. This collaboration extends to the work that the Special Education Program Monitoring Team performs with school districts and their leadership.
 
Key responsibilities of this position include:

• Reviewing data submitted by school districts and determining if the data is congruent with requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act and Vermont State Board of Education Rules
• Compiling and analyzing data as part of monitoring activities
• Providing direct technical assistance pertaining to special education program monitoring to Vermont's special education administrators and educators 
• Supporting the development of state and federal reporting documents
• Acting as a liaison within the Agency of Education to support state programs for students with disabilities
• Visiting public and independent schools as needed for site reviews

 
We are seeking candidates with skills and experience in written communication, Microsoft Excel and related programs, and the ability to use and compare multiple sets of data, assuring accurate determinations, compilation, and reporting. The individual must have attention to detail and the ability to analyze complex activities, relationships and situations, identify problems, draw logical conclusions, and develop and defend independent recommendations. 

 
The Agency is currently based in Montpelier, VT, with remote work serving as the primary venue aside from periodic in-person requirements at the Agency and throughout Vermont.

Environmental Factors

Work is generally performed in a standard office setting, but significant travel may be anticipated for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal work schedule may be required. There may be considerable interaction with a variety of publics and strong differences of opinion may be encountered.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education, public administration, or related field AND five (5) years or more at a professional level education, program development, or leadership role in a public or private educational institution.
OR
Three (3) years or more as an Education Programs Coordinator I with the State of Vermont.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree.
