POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Director of Business Development plays a critical role in driving revenue growth and strategic partnerships across Edtech companies and other education organizations across the industry. This position leads a dynamic team responsible for sales, revenue-driving strategic partnerships, and customer success while bringing in substantial revenue through ISTE+ASCD's premium product suite and strategic initiatives. Working closely with the Managing Director of Research and Development (R&D) and cross-functional teams, this role is instrumental in identifying and developing business integration opportunities, fostering innovative partnerships, and ensuring strategic alignment with ISTE+ASCD's organizational objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Strategic Leadership and Business Development:
- Develops and fosters relationships with strategic partners across the field, such as potential partners or collaborators in support of systems-change, industry goals and priorities, and ISTE+ASCD.
- Responsible for maintaining and growing relationships with existing and prospective largest customers in partnership with the Managing Director of R&D.
- Develops and refines the industry customer maturity model across ISTE+ASCD offerings.
- Seeks out new business development opportunities.
- Explores ways to grow and leverage successful and/or promising existing partnerships and relationships.
- Leads strategic direction and oversight of new business development initiatives.
- Develops and optimizes business development infrastructure and processes.
2. Revenue and Team Management:
- Manages budgets for centralized business development division, including forecasting and reconciliation, striving to attain earned revenue goals.
- Leads and monitors work of earned revenue, including providing support and guidance for creative and innovative partnership proposals.
- Manages and supports the team in customer contract negotiations.
- Provides leadership and guidance for growth strategy, including recommendations to the marketing team around social media, email campaigns, and other amplification.
3. Organizational Leadership:
- Represents ISTE+ASCD internally and externally in cross-functional partnerships with colleagues, peer organizations, and industry stakeholders.
- Liaisons with ISTE+ASCD senior leadership colleagues, influences without authority, and identifies and implements strong business integrations, product bundles, and finds opportunities for improvement.
PRIORITY WILL BE PROVIDED TO CANDIDATES LIVING IN THE DC METRO AREA (MD, DC, or Northern VA); you will be REQUIRED to come into the Arlington, VA office one day per week.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred, ideally in Education, Business, Nonprofit Management, or related discipline.
- 7+ years successfully leading in a development or business development role.
- Demonstrated responsibility for new project development along with P&L experience including generating a positive ROI.
- Experience managing department budgets (at least $500K).
- Prior experience working in a nonprofit or edtech externally-facing role.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent strategic thinking and business planning capabilities.
- Strong data, financial analysis, and reporting skills.
- Strong organizational skills: managing and tracking multiple overlapping initiatives and relationships.
- Ability to navigate potentially competing interests and find areas of alignment across teams.
