Job Description
We have an opening for an Access Control Security Specialist within the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF) Operations Section of the Special Security Office (SSO). This role will serve as the primary point of contact and provide extremely complex and dynamic security support to the Strategic Intelligence Partnership Program (SIPP) and activities within the Field Intelligence Element (FIE) tailored to Department of Energy (DOE) and SIPP customer requirements and missions. The FIE is a unique institutional support organization that requires a variety of security requirements to be upheld with minimal margin for error under the most stringent security regulations. This position reports to the SCIF Operations Section Leader in the FIE within the Global Security (GS) Principal Directorate.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
You will
- Serve as the primary contact for associated SCIF access control activities, ensuring visitors, staff, and uncleared personnel are properly vetted, processed, badged, and escorted in accordance with established procedures and security requirements.
- Coordinate daily lobby and visitor control activities for SCIF access, ensuring required documentation, visit certifications, access rosters, and badging records are accurate, complete, and maintained.
- Resolve routine day-to-day access control and visitor processing issues by applying established procedures, guidelines, checklists, and manuals while escalating non-routine matters as needed.
- Provide procedural guidance to employees, visitors, and customers on access control, visit processing, badging, escort requirements, and other SCIF entry procedures within assigned area.
- Support daily SCIF operations by maintaining logs, records, notifications, and other administrative or operational documentation associated with access control activities.
- Provide backup support to SCIF Operations and assist with Personnel Security and Information Security activities as assigned.
- Coordinate with internal and external contacts to deconflict routine scheduling, visitor, badging, and access matters to support secure and efficient daily operations.
- Maintain effective working relationships and provide responsive customer service while handling sensitive and confidential information with tact, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities, at the J14.2 level:
- Independently provide professional security support for SCIF operations and related FIE activities, ensuring access control processes are effectively integrated with personnel, physical, and information security requirements.
- Review and evaluate SCIF operational activities, visitor access practices, and associated documentation to identify security concerns, recommend corrective actions, and ensure compliance with LLNL, DOE, and IC requirements.
- Develop, update, and maintain local procedures, job aids, checklists, and other documentation supporting access control and SCIF operations in accordance with governing requirements.
- Support self-assessments, audits, inspections, and compliance reviews; identify issues, track corrective actions, and assist in implementing process improvements.
- Deliver security awareness information, procedural briefings, and training related to SCIF access, visitor control, and other security requirements.
- Provide substantive cross-functional support to SCIF Operations, Personnel Security, and Information Security, including assisting with implementation of security requirements that affect multiple security disciplines.
