The Cashier Clerk is responsible for obtaining or receiving merchandise, totaling bills, accepting payments, and making change for customers in retail stores.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Prior job-related experience preferred.
- Computer literate.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other employees.
- Read, write, and speak English fluently.
Physical Requirement:
- Frequent walking with some standing at times.
- Will walk for long periods of time, possibly extended distances.
- Frequently lifts/carries up to 25 lbs.
- Occasionally lifts/carries up to 50 lbs.
- Continual use of manual dexterity and gross motor skills with frequent use of bimanual dexterity and fine motor skills.
- Able to reach hands and arms in any direction and kneel and stoop repeatedly.
- Able to spend long periods of time on your feet, sitting or working in close quarters.
- Able to work early mornings and late nights.
Duties:
- Stock shelves, racks, counters, or tables with merchandise.
- Greet customers when entering or leaving the store.
- Cross sell products and introduce new ones.
- Obtain merchandise requested by customer or receive merchandise selected by customer.
- Resolve customer complaints, guide them, and provide relevant information.
- Total price and tax on merchandise purchased by customer to determine bill.
- Accept payment whether by credit card or cash.
- Wrap or bag merchandise for customers.
- Scan goods and ensure pricing is accurate.
- Track transactions on balance sheets and report any discrepancies.
- Keep records of sales, prepare inventory of stock and order merchandise.
- Maintain clean and tidy checkout area.
- Any other duties assigned by the manager or supervisor.
