POSITION SUMMARY:   

The Patient Access Referral Authorization Specialist will accurately collect and analyze all required demographic, insurance, financial and clinical data elements necessary to secure reimbursement for the organization and to promote the patient experience. The Specialist is responsible for obtaining authorizations as required by the individual insurance company.  The incumbent is responsible to accurately enter notes and scan documentation regarding correspondence from insurance companies in reference to insurance authorization or other notifications.  The Patient Access Referral Authorization Specialist communicates and collaborates with hospital staff and Provider offices for scheduled visits.  The Specialist completes all required duties in a timely fashion on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis per the direction of policy and leadership.  The Specialist is responsible for routine patient access registration and referral activity to facilitate efficient operations, expeditious reimbursement and optimal consumer satisfaction and to promote teamwork.  The Specialist is responsible to further the mission of Enloe Medical Center.  The Specialist is responsible to consistently demonstrate the core values of Enloe Medical Center.  They are responsible to perform their duties in accordance with regulatory compliance requirements and the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.

       

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:

Minimum

- Two years of related experience in a medical office, clinic, hospital or other healthcare environment

(insurance authorizations and referral process).

- Proficient skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Desired

- One year of experience applying knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care reimburse-

ment guidelines

- Knowledge of Medical Terminology

- Professional knowledge of Health Insurance

- Professional knowledge of obtaining insurance authorizations, insurance benefits, referrals.

- Knowledge of current CPT procedure codes, HCPCS and ICD diagnosis coding.

- Excellent organizational, data entry and technology skills

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:

Must have excellent customer and communication skills, ability to work independently. Must be able to follow instructions, learn the work routines associated with patient access, referral and authorization workflows; work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment; must have good customer service and time management skills. Capable of using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (Microsoft Office Suite) computer skills and general office equipment.  Must possess an ability to work with high degree of precision, paying attention to detail to achieve the high accuracy levels required and timely follow-up and close-out of all matters.  Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
