Description
The minimum salary for this position is $6,375. The University of Michigan-Flint invites applications for a part-time faculty position at the Lecturer I level for the period of August 24 through December 19, 2026. The position requires teaching a 3-credit (25% effort) undergraduate studio course.
ART 142: Three-Dimensional Design introduces students to the visual fundamentals of three-dimensional design through the exploration of form, space, structure, material, and process. Students develop an understanding of three-dimensional composition and design principles while creating projects that encourage experimentation, critical thinking, and the expression of personal ideas. Coursework incorporates a variety of materials, techniques, and methods, and emphasizes both conceptual development and technical skill. The course is appropriate for art and design majors as well as non-majors.
The course is scheduled Tuesday and Thursday, 11 AM- 1:45 PM. The instructor is responsible for preparing and delivering course content, developing and evaluating student projects, facilitating critiques, maintaining regular communication with students, and participating in program assessment activities as needed. The budget for this position is for the Fall 2026 term only.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Candidates must possess, at minimum, a graduate degree in studio art, sculpture, design, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of three-dimensional design principles and contemporary studio practices.
Desired Qualifications
Evidence of successful teaching experience at the college or university level is preferred. Professional experience in studio art, sculpture, spatial design, fabrication, or related creative practice is desirable. Experience working with a range of materials and processes in three-dimensional design and a commitment to inclusive, student-centered teaching are highly valued.
