Position Summary

The Referral Authorization Specialist is an ideal opportunity responsible for identifying and securing financial resources for complex, high dollar, inpatient and outpatient vascular surgeries and procedures, outpatient testing and surgical consultation. As an intermediate level office resource, your ability to effectively manage authorizations, referrals, benefits and estimates for anticipated health care services, will ensure the efficient operations of patient health care services.

Responsibilities

  • You will expedite administrative and insurance requirements and logistics
  • You will serve as a resource on referrals and insurance plan and benefit guidelines
  • You will apply discretion, good judgment, and professional communication to all work experiences
  • You will regularly utilize independent decision-making capacities and strong interpersonal skills

Requirements

  • AA degree in business or medical records management preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years referral or medical billing experience
  • National Association of Healthcare Access Management
  • Certification (NAHAM) preferred
  • Three (3) years of pre-authorization or referral coordinator experience preferred
  • Three (3) years of experience processing incoming claims or pre-authorization requests for an insurance payor preferred
  • Completion of formal authorization onboarding/training within Pre- Service department performing the principal accountabilities preferred
  • Two (2) years of experience in dealing with the public in a customer service role
  • Medical Terminology proficiency by examination

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $21.47 - $30.89 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
