Job Summary:Do You Have a Passion for Investigative Work in the Horse Racing Industry?
The Arizona Department of Gaming is seeks an experienced and dedicated Senior Investigator to conduct in-depth investigations and adjudication within the horse racing industry. If you have a background in regulatory investigations, a deep understanding of racing laws, and the ability to work independently, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the integrity of Arizona’s horse racing industry.
As the Senior Investigator, you will be responsible for conducting licensing background investigations, comprehensive racing investigations, and presenting investigative findings in administrative hearings. You will work closely with racing officials, law enforcement agencies, and other regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with Arizona’s racing laws. Additionally, you will be involved in coordinating investigations with other agencies, assisting with the licensing program, and performing inspections at racetracks.
Your Impact:
- Conduct Investigations: Lead investigations related to violations of Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.) Title 5 and Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) Title 19 at racetracks. Investigate false applications, interview witnesses, and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Licensing Support: Assist in managing the licensing program for live horse racing and simulcasts, applying and interpreting racing laws, rules, and policies.
- Adjudication and Testimony: Present findings and testify at administrative hearings, courts, and depositions related to racing investigations.
- Inspection and Compliance: Perform inspections of racetrack stalls, barns, tack rooms, and other facilities to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
- Agency Collaboration: Liaise with other agencies, regulatory bodies, and racing jurisdictions to coordinate investigations and ensure thorough compliance with racing regulations.
What we are looking for:
- Experience: Proven experience conducting background investigations, regulatory compliance investigations, and preparing detailed investigative reports.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Arizona racing commission rules, horse track operations, racing animal anatomy, investigative techniques, and current trends in the horse racing industry.
- Skills: Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), excellent organizational and time management abilities, and proficiency in investigative tools and software, such as Adobe Acrobat, G-Suite/Workspace, and Microsoft Office.
- Abilities: Ability to handle volatile situations, make sound judgments, and manage multiple tasks independently. Must be able to testify in administrative hearings and court proceedings.
- Licenses/Certifications: A valid state-issued driver’s license is required for this position.
