Position: Psychiatric Rehab Tech – Rehab Assistant
Location: Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA)
The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an PSR – Rehab Assistant. Successful candidate will work Tuesday through Saturday from 11a-730p.
Position Overview:
The primary responsibility of this role is to offer a rich and diverse range of engagement experiences. Under the direction of the Therapist II, the PSR Tech ensures these activities are integrated with other aspects of the treatment plan. PSR Techs also support the general environment by providing supplies and materials for on-unit engagement, as well as preparing and delivering sensory and activity boxes to help patients develop coping mechanisms.

Our mission is to provide comprehensive, high-quality, and individualized acute psychiatric and psychosocial inpatient services. We work in partnership with other providers to improve the lives of Virginia's children who need intensive care, as well as their families. Additionally, we are committed to building statewide capacity in behavioral healthcare by offering training opportunities to mental health and human service providers, as well as students, through partnerships with colleges, universities, and community agencies across central and western Virginia. We also collaborate with other mental health and child-serving organizations to offer guidance and expertise in the development of Virginia’s mental health system for children and adolescents.
Required Skills and Competencies:
• Knowledge of human growth, child development, and the family system.
• Knowledge of positive behavior management and behavior motivation techniques.
• Specialized knowledge in principles and techniques of group facilitation, fostering positive intrapersonal relationships, and conflict resolution.
• Ability to assess, plan, conduct, and document active treatment interventions for children and adolescents using multi-modal techniques, and ability to adapt activities and interventions to varying patient needs.
• Ability to evaluate and report children’s progress to other clinical team members including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, therapists, and direct care staff.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer use.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- A valid Virginia Driver's License
- Advanced training or experience working with children and adolescents and/or psychiatric patients is required
Additional Considerations
- Bachelor’s degree from a college or university with major studies in therapeutic recreation, psychology, child development, family education, or related human services field is preferred.
- Related certification and/or license in respective specialty, or QMHP-C, preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Veteran or Veteran Spouse.
