Overview:
We are hiring a Software Developer focusing on frontend development for one of ORNL’s flagship applications used by nearly all our 6,000 plus employees! Working on our team, you’ll be in a highly collaborative environment with other team members to develop and maintain compelling, modern user interfaces with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
This position resides in the Software Engineering Group within the Application Development Division of the Information Technology Services Directorate, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain polished, performant, and responsive user interface components using Vue.js and AngularJS frameworks and libraries.
- Routine collaboration with:
- Product Manager and design team to ensure our high-fidelity designs will satisfy documented business requirements.
- Backend developers to ensure API’s satisfy frontend requirements for data and performance.
- Other frontend developers to ensure that common UI patterns are followed, unit tests are passing, and builds are succeeding.
- Product Manager and other members of the development team to ensure software requirements are accurately represented in epics, features, and user stories.
- The development team, including the Product Manager, to ensure tests and documentation meet the expectations of the software requirements.
- Work as part of an Agile development team regularly updating any user stories, tasks, or defects that you’ve agreed to while collaborating with teammates.

Basic Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a business, technical, or related field of study with at least five years of proven experience is required, or an overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.
- Five or more years of real-world experience developing single page applications with frameworks like Vue.js, Angular, React, etc.
- A solid grasp of modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for client development targeting both desktop and mobile browsers.
- Familiarity with the latest Vue practices such as script setup, composition API, and Vue 2.7/3 style development.
- Familiarity with modern frontend state management (Vuex/Redux) and with frontend build tools such as Webpack, Vite, or Parcel.
- A solid grasp of Git for version control including common branching and merging strategies.
- Familiarity with common software principles and guidelines such as SOLID, DRY/WET, and YAGNI and when they should and should not be insisted upon.
- Superb communication, organizational, and time management skills and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working as a team member under one or more Agile development methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or Lean.
- Familiarity with Storybook, Playwright, monorepos and microfrontends preferred.
- Familiarity with ASP.NET, C#, and SQL Server.
- Familiarity with commonly used development and design tools like Visual Studio Code, WebStorm, Figma, or Invision.
- Desire to continuously improve technical skills, processes, and strategies in delivering regular, reliable, high-quality releases.
