Pharmacy Resident 1Yr

Inova Fairfax Hospital is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Resident 1Yr to join the team. 

The Year-One Pharmacy Resident functions as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide quality patient care. Oversees all department activities regarding the ordering, preparation and dispensing of pharmaceutical preparations. Follows all federal, state, and local laws, in addition to remaining compliant with the requirements of the Virginia Board of Pharmacy. Provides Pharmaceutical Care while ensuring that safe, appropriate, and cost-effective therapies are made available for patients, according to established policies, procedures and protocols.

This is a full-time 40hrs per week various shifts position. Every 3rd weekend and rotating holidays.

Job Responsibilities:

• Functions effectively as a member of the healthcare team and establishes a collaborative working relationship with physicians and other healthcare providers.
• Weighs, measures, and prepares medication products by utilizing the appropriate tools and equipment.
• Interprets medication orders and accurately transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles.
• Maintains accurate and complete patient medication profiles.
• Accurately compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals including sterile, chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition products.
• Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law.
• Takes ownership for daily department operations in the absence of a manager/supervisor when needed.
• Displays initiative in preventing, identifying, and resolving Pharmacy related patient care problems. 
• Designs, recommends, monitors, and evaluates patient specific therapeutic regimens that incorporate the principles of evidence-based medicine.
• Develops proficiency in Information Systems including the ability to generate reports.
• Delivers effective education and training programs to physicians, nurses, and other practitioners.
• Provides instruction to Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Students, Pharmacy Residents and Pharmacists.
• Provides concise, applicable, comprehensive, and timely responses to requests for drug information from patients, healthcare providers and the community.

Qualifications:

 Licensure:

• Eligible for licensure in Virginia.

Education:

• Bachelors degree in Pharmacy.

Certifications:

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association within 3 months of hire for Critical Care.  
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association within 3 months of hire.
