Connected Manufacturing Assistant* (New Ulm, MN)

As a Connected Manufacturing Assistant, you will design, implement, and maintain systems focused on connecting manufacturing.  This role will function as technical assistant to multiple Data Automation related projects at the site.

What You Do

  • Acquire knowledge and understanding of Data Automation practices using various software packages.
  • Understand data automation architecture and securities.
  • Support testing and site deployment efforts while fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Communicate project status to the Data Automation team on a weekly basis.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to site computer systems
  • Create documentation of system tools and systems to educate engineers, craftspeople, technicians, trainers, and others as necessary on project results
  • Partner with Technology Advancement to ensure site stakeholders (Operations, Engineering, VS, LSS, etc.) have data and tools to improve factory & value stream efficiency

What You Bring

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED (completed prior to start)
  • Possess or currently pursuing an associate degree or higher in a technical field such as Automation, SCADA, Systems, C#, SQL, REST APIs, SQL, web development or related or 5 year equivalent work experience
  • Possess a high regard and understanding of Safety practices.
  • Successful completion of Maintenance Selection Test Battery; preferred rating of 'HIGH'.
  • Self-Starter with the ability to work independently and to work overtime as needed.
  • Experience with software application and/or database design, programming, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, SCADA environments, Ethernet and Modbus network communications, Microsoft Development Environment, and Windows operating systems.
  •  Must possess communication skills and ability to interact with and work with diversified improvement teams.
  • Must possess an excellent understanding of computer and network fundamentals.
  • Ability to lift/carry heavy materials
  • Ability to comprehend, understand, and apply written and verbal directions from standard operating procedures, safety rules and supervisor coaching
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment in accordance with safety rules

Other Helpful Experience You May Have

  • Experience with current Connected Manufacturing tools such as (Workflow, Historian, Power Bi, Digital Visualization, Analytics and various MicroSoft Tools)
  • Cross-functional knowledge in MES, PLCs, vision/inspection systems, C#, SQL, REST APIs, SQL, web development, data pipelines, cloud tools, database structures, query methods, network security with the ability to drive full solutions
  • Travel may be required during project support efforts and to maintain technical education.
