About the Role
As a Sr Broadband Engineer, you will be developing efficient and cost-effective network solutions to provide direction to other Engineering and Implementation teams, contributing directly to development of a forward-looking network infrastructure and evaluating state-of-the-art broadband electronics to provide advanced telecommunication services to Windstream’s customers. This is a remote position and can sit anywhere in the United States.
What You’ll Do
• Develop and execute test plans for existing and new broadband equipment such as DSLAM/OLTs and ONT/ONU
• Work in a lab environment with access equipment, not limited to configuration development, hardware evaluation, software evaluation, equipment installation
• Occasional work with field operations teams may be necessary during new equipment rollouts
• Work with routing platforms and IP protocols at the BNG layer
• Analyze issues from support/engineering/field teams related to DSLAM/OLT
• Research new equipment/vendors as needed based on business needs
• Develop new network configurations and architecture using best practices as defined by the BBF and ITU
• Evaluate EMS platforms related to access equipment and northbound/southbound protocols used in communication to network equipment
• Experience with various protocols used in Broadband services, DHCP, OMCI, SIP, PPPoE, FTP, TFTP, SNMP, MGCP, etc
• Experience with layer 2 best practices, such as MFF, domain sizing, traffic classification/prioritization, VLAN design/management
• Experience on network platforms including DSLAM/OLT, BNG, ethernet switches, IP routers is essential
• Communicating daily with other work groups, both technical and non-technical, to provide timely updates and pass on information in a clear and concise manner
• Other duties as assigned to meet business and customer service requirements
• Less than 5% travel
Do You Have?
• Thorough understanding of telecom industry concepts and terminology
• Solid understanding of network engineering and design principles
• Developed understanding and working knowledge of data networking, which includes experience with management networks, DSL, FTTP, Ethernet, IP technologies in large scale networks
• Previous experience planning or engineering networked facilities including uplinks and customer facing components
• Solid understanding of access network design principles including physical and logical topologies, uplink sizing, port capacity, and bandwidth management
• Working knowledge of Ethernet-based BBDLC and DSLAM equipment platforms for the delivery of voice, broadband, and video services

• Self-motivated with the ability to effectively prioritize, manage, and complete work assignments in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with minimal supervision
• Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to summarize and present detailed information to technical and non-technical audiences
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Able to quickly understand requirements and identify appropriate solutions
• Team-oriented and experienced at working in a collaborative environment
• Willingness to consider the opinions of others and to think outside the box
• Desire to learn new skills and a willingness to embrace change with a positive attitude
• Solid PC skills with the aptitude to quickly learn new software applications
• Proficient at using Microsoft Windows, Office and Outlook
• Experience with large scale DHCP management and highly scalable BNG platforms is a plus
• Understanding of electrical principles used in DC power plants is a plus
