As a Program Specialist Senior Structure and Bridge, you will use our foundational drivers to play a crucial role in shaping the highways that connect communities and drive progress across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

VDOT's Structure and Bridge has an exciting opportunity for a Program Specialist Senior Structure and Bridge (SB) to support the Salem District. This position will administer projects for the Salem District in support of a statewide program for bridge preservation activities and provide oversight of budget expenditures and ensure compliance with program regulations and safety standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
• Knowledge of complex highway design and project management.
• Ability to interpret contracts, special provisions and specifications.
• Experience applying federal, state, local transportation rules, regulations and policies with the ability to determine applications.
• Knowledge of bridge design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications and materials.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences to include
making presentations and conducting meetings.
• Knowledge of transportation project development, integration to include regulatory, finance,
legal constraints related to compliance with standards, specifications, policies and
procedures.
• Ability to supervise staff, programs and budgets.
• Skill in building networks, relationships with employees, field personnel, contractors, FHWA representatives and public officials.

Additional Considerations

• A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering, Structural
Engineering, or related field desired.
• Experience administering a transportation program for bridge repair, maintenance and
safety inspection. Experience in bridge design including maintenance plans.
• Professional Engineer's license or Engineer in Training certification.
• Experience in structural engineering, bridge safety inspection and bridge maintenance.
• Project management (PMP) certification.
