About the role
This is a remote position.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm North Carolina TimeWe are looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented Tax Accountant to join our internal accounting team. This role focuses on preparing, reviewing, and maintaining tax compliance for U.S. clients while working behind the scenes to support client-facing advisors. The Tax Accountant will ensure accuracy, compliance with U.S. tax laws, and timely completion of filings without direct client interaction.
Tax Compliance and Preparation
- Prepare federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, partnerships,corporations, and LLCs.
- Review financial statements, general ledgers, and supporting schedules to ensure tax accuracy.
- Ensure all filings are completed on time and in compliance with IRS and state regulations.
Research and Technical Support
- Research federal and state tax regulations and update the team on legislative changes.
- Provide internal guidance to senior accountants and managers regarding tax treatment of complex transactions.
- Draft technical memos and documentation for internal use.
Internal Team Support
- Collaborate with bookkeeping, payroll, and accounting teams to reconcile tax data and ensure accuracy.
- Assist client-facing CPAs and managers by providing accurate calculations, schedules, and tax estimates.
- Prepare supporting documentation for tax planning strategies developed by the advisory team.
Audit and Compliance Maintenance
- Organize and maintain documentation for potential IRS or state audits.
- Support the preparation of responses to tax notices under the direction of senior accountants or managers.
- Monitor deadlines for tax filings and estimated payments.
Process Improvement
- Recommend improvements to tax workflows, checklists, and filing systems.
- Support implementation of tax software and digital automation to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or EA preferred but not required). 2–4 years of U.S. tax preparation and compliance experience.
Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.
Proficiency in tax software (e.g., Drake, Lacerte, ProConnect, UltraTax, or similar).
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
