Job Description:
Establishes the general framework for economic development analyses. Monitors trends in various sectors of the US. Forecasts changes in business conditions and relationships. Responsible for economic and financial forecasting. Directs the preparation of reports for internal and external distribution, including presentations to the sales force and institutional clients.
Responsibilities:
- Economist in Chief Investment Office (“CIO”) will share timely, relevant economic and financial data and analysis with CIO Portfolio Managers and other internal stakeholders to better identify risks and inform risk scenarios, trading decisions and portfolio construction
- Communicate economic trends and risk scenarios in a way that is useful and significant to the understanding of bank balance sheet and income trends
- Distill complex economic data for non-technical audiences, requiring excellent communicative ability
- High-frequency review and analysis of domestic and international economic events
- Assessment of likelihood of specific economic, geopolitical, and market rate outcomes; identification of potentially impactful events for the enterprise
- Real-time analysis of newly released economic data
- Research on economic impacts of monetary, fiscal and regulatory policies
- Work across the enterprise to develop and implement consistent macroeconomic framework, including models, variables, and input assumptions
- Disseminate macroeconomic data in user-friendly, low-touch method designed to engage stakeholders
- Develop statistical and econometric models for economic forecasting
- Write research notes for internal publication
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in a quantitative role at a financial, public academic or international institution
- Experience conducting original, independent economic or statistical analysis using techniques such as multivariate regression, time series regression, or similar
- Deep knowledge of economic theory
- Experience working with official government economic data sources
- Foundational programming experience with the ability to learn new languages as needed
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under tight time constraints to respond to requests from senior management
- Self-starter; Initiates work independently, before being asked
- Strong team player able to seamlessly transition between contributing individually and collaborating on team projects
- Strong attention to detail
Desired Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, or Finance
- Programming skills in Python or R
- Expertise in time series analysis and macro modelling
- Proactive and passionate about working on complex problem solving
