GENERAL SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Manager reports to the Director of Pharmacy. The primary job function of the Registered Pharamcist Clinical Manager is oversight and management of all clinical operations and of all clinical staff in the inpatient pharmacy.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (5 year) is required

• Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) is also preferred.

Licensure:

• Pharmacy (OH or KY) license required

• Graduate Pharmacists may also be hired awaiting license

• BLS within 90 days of hire required

• Completion of PGY1 or PGY2 residency in ambulatory pharmacy care is preferred

Experience:

• Previous leadership experience preferred.

• Previous community pharmacy experience preferred.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 

1. Assists the pharmacy manager with introductory and annual performance appraisals of pharmacists, lead technicians, and MLTs.

2. Schedules the inpatient pharmacists and the cancer center pharmacists. 

3. Maintains the inpatient pharmacy dashboard.

4. Participates in and leads some daily huddles.

5. Collaborates with the clinical team regarding new clinical care initiatives. 

6. Leads clinical meetings.

7. Oversees and manages all clinical operations of the inpatient pharmacy.

8. Assists the pharmacy director and pharmacy manager in hiring new staff members.

9. Serves as the hub site coordinator for University of Findlay.

10. Serves as a preceptor for IPPE and APPE students.

11. Works with the pharmacy manager and purchasing agent to prepare the annual pharmacy budget.

12. Presents pharmacy initiatives to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. 

13. Assists the pharmacy director and pharmacy manager and informatics specialist with technology initiatives.

14. Assists the pharmacy director and pharmacy manager with pharmacist competency preparation every 6 months.

15. Assist the pharmacy director and pharmacy manager with scheduling the IV room recertification. 

16. Assists the pharmacy director and pharmacy manager in leading the process improvement team.

17. With the pharmacy director and pharmacy manager, rounds quarterly with the pharmacists and lead technicians.

18. Attends nursing huddles when needed.

19. Assists the pharmacy director and pharmacy manager in leading weekly leadership discussions.

20. Assists the pharmacy director and pharmacy manager in residency coordination.

21. Compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies according to accepted standards of practice to fill written prescriptions issued by qualified prescribers.

22. Checks the accuracy and appropriateness of all medications dispensed.

23. Intervenes clinically with the physician when necessary and appropriate to optimize drug therapy.

24. Maintains accurate and appropriate patient profiling and charging records for all inpatient and non-inpatient medication orders.

25. Follows accepted standards of practice and adheres to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of SOMC and Pharmacy Services.

26. Serves as a drug information source for patients, physicians, nursing personnel, hospital staff, visitors, and the community.

27. Assists the Pharmacy Manager and Director of Pharmacy with certain assigned reports or projects.

28. Maintains a level of professional competency and remains current in the field of pharmacy.

29. Assigns, teaches, supervises, and monitors the work of Pharmacy Technicians, students, interns, residents, and externs.
